Modelling is really fun, once you get used to the tools you are using a bit more. Today was no exception. I spent time around some other tree models, using old techniques I used in college. I found that trying to be more complicated for the sake of showing skill was actually further from the kind of style, at least I, envision for the game. If it works, it doesn’t matter how simple it is. Sometimes you have to think about your aesthetics rather than about showing off. So after taking sometime to realize that and after much frustration I managed to move on to other assets. This includes water lily’s and flowers to go floating in the water areas.
Afterwards it was important to see what all the other indie developers where up to and how they where getting on with their progress. I think its important thing to do, because people are going through various stages of making their own game, and whilst you might not think they have the best game idea in the world, its good to see the justifications, the lessons and achievements of those around you. It’s not about comparing your vision to theirs, because you could have a totally different outlook on what’s appealing and what they feel will be appealing to their players. Some really impressive stuff out there and its very admirable that they put their art on show, and that’s not to sound too big-headed with what we are doing ,but it’s hard to release you creation to the world, especially at the early stages. To all the indie developers or aspiring indie developers we wish you the best of luck.
Looking forward to working to working on the game over the next week. Keep in touch.
