Main game Progress

With the day care finished up I am now moving on to saving. This will allow us to play with the numbers for decreasing stats. We currently need the stats to change at a fast rate to allow us to test all of the results quickly. This can cause us to miss things though. Saving will also open the way to adding in long term features such as unlocking the pets and getting in-game shop items for your pet.

A small Designer update

This week I outlined multiple game ideas for our next short. Which we will be working on the start of next week.

Most of my work has been around working with each member of the team and discussing the way forward on each persons section and making sure it will come together smoothly. I also managed to get through some PR work and testing Stevens and Alex’s Builds.  Steven has been guiding me in programming department and showing me why he does the things that he does.

Moving forward this week I’ll be working on the sprite sheets to get them set up for the programmer to implement them into the game. I will be working with Steven & Malcolm to further 1 of the design ideas I have for the next game both in an artistic and programming sense, but also for designer input as they are both graduate designers. We are having a meeting this Thursday in which we will discuss screen size relative to the Air Balloon Game and fixing score display as well as the steps moving forward with the base game and shop implementation.

Keeping up the Quality!

A while back we were working on a mustache type game. However after much discussion we decided that it wasn’t going to be to the level of game play quality that we expect. As a result we have decided to scrap the Mustache short. This doesn’t mean we wont ever make a short similar to it or reinvent it down the line but we have moved on to other shorts since then.

Recently I outlined a pie eating game where we discussed it further and made it better. Recently it has been in development and is nearly finished with art work in place.  In preparation for this I wanted to outline ideas for games that would potentially replace the mustache level , currently I have 4. When we have finished the Pie eating game and after the slight changes and fixes we have considered for all levels is complete we will pick the next game to work on, which will probably be the start of next week.

I went through the Air Balloon adventure mode and tested as many variables of play as I could think in order to find bugs within the game. I managed to find a few which hopefully means the map is relatively bug free.

Tomorrow we have a meeting and we will be outlining how the base game is going to move on from there whilst getting to see the Care home hopefully fully implemented in terms of art and features.

Artist Update 008 – Pie Eater

Hey Had a cool week creating the next sub game for monster mayhem. The Pie eating contest! It was one of the first games Darius and I had in mind for Mayhem. Finally got around to putting it in. The Swamp pet is the star of the show as to reflect his gluttonous personality, eat the pies as fast as you can before the time runs out!

We got day care art to go with the day care code. Other than that, we are mostly focusing on making sure the sounds in the main game and the air balloon game are balanced and go off correctly.

I am adding the ability to gift pets that are in the day care so they don’t get too lonely and end up running away if you are ignoring them.

Not much else to say this week. It is fairly straight forward stuff.

This weeks progress

Hi guys,

This week I have been working on furthering the new feature set of the base game, outlining all the potential foods we can have, and which pets like or dislike certain foods. I have also been working on the shop design document and outlining the best possible way we can do this.

I did quite a bit of PR as well as working with Steven on the newest mini games as he showed me the programming ropes. We also collaborated as a team to further some of the design of the two games we have going for Monster Mayhem mini game.

I managed to complete some testing, which has allowed us to really pinpoint some of the communication issues with the player and as a result we talked about these points today. I really cannot stress how often at different stages you should test your game for feedback.

This week I hope to do more testing and furthering any design on the base game and communication issues with the mini games and base game.
